SCP-178, or ""3-D" Specs", is an SCP object that can be found and used by the player in SCP - Containment Breach.

Description[edit | edit source]

SCP-178 is a pair of white stereoscopic glasses with a rectangular white cardboard frame and lenses of transparent blue and red plastic. The item exhibits no unusual physical properties apart from a slight discoloration of the cardboard consistent with age. When worn, the wearer begins perceiving large bipedal entities in addition to its ordinary surroundings.

In-game[edit | edit source]

SCP-178 can be found inside its containment chamber, sitting atop a wooden podium. Upon equipping it the player will start to perceive instances of SCP-178-1 around the facility. Taking SCP-178 off will cause the instances to disappear, however should the player have agitated the instances, they will continue to attack the player for a short period of time before ceasing their attack.

Description[edit | edit source]

SCP-178 entities reportedly exhibit a docile and occasionally curious behavior, including entities leaning over the shoulder of persons working and observing them with interest.

Any attempt by the wearer to directly interact with the entities results in severe lacerations suddenly appearing on persons involved. The appearance of lacerations is rapid and continues until the moment the wearer dies. The pattern of lacerations is always consistent with being slashed with three parallel, tapered sharp objects. Subjects do not report hearing any sounds emanating from the entities.

The entities take on the appearance of an arachnid-like creature with multiple eyes and pedipalps. They remain stationary unless agitated and appear to create spectral forms of themselves, which surround them and 'flicker' in and out of existence.

In-game[edit | edit source]

Once SCP-178 is equipped, SCP-178-1 instances will start appearing throughout the facility. Once direct, physical contact is made with any instance, they, along with any instances around the player, will become agitated and start pursuing the player. Making any further physical contact with an instance will result in them slashing at the player until they die.

Unequipping SCP-178 will cause the instances to disappear; however, they will continue to attack the player for a short period of time before ceasing.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • SCP-178 was originally part of the Box of Horrors third-party mod for the game made by forum user Juanjpro. It was added to the game in v1.1.
  • SCP-178-1's model is comprised of a modified hazmat suit model, along with the animations originally used for the old SCP-049-2 model.
  • Although the Foundation article states that SCP-178's entities will continue to attack subjects even after removing the glasses, the instances found in-game will stop pursuing the player shortly after removing them.
