The original SCP - Containment Breach Wiki was founded on April 29th, 2012 by Geogzm. He had created the wiki with the intent of it being run by the community as a means for newcomers to learn about the game back when it was first released. Other admins on that wiki included Zabidenu (now known as Zabinyan), TheIncredibleHibby, CommunistPancake, Big LargeMcHuge, and AR7. The wiki was known among many as having "too many pages and too little content". Poor moderation of information and community involvement generated many complaints about the wiki. Later, CommanderPro100 (now known as CommanderMark) approached Regalis stating that him and several other people (specifically ScavengerOfHumanSorrow MrPeanut) had gotten fed up with the the current wiki and that they wanted to re-create from scratch with the intent of making a clear and up to date place for people to learn about the game. Regalis had given them the green light and the new wiki began production on June 7th, 2013.

The creation of the official wiki
The wiki was publicly announced on June 15th, 2013. ScavengerOfHumanSorrow, MrPeanut, and CommanderMark were the founding admins of the new wiki, and since kept the flow of content in check. Users from the older wiki migrated to the new one after it was announced on the official forums. Notable improvements to the new wiki included replacement of comments sections with talk pages, stricter ban system, and no more pages for game modifications (which was then demoted to a collective blog listing download links for proper community mods).

Migration to Gamepedia
This wiki is not...
A fanfic site
Articles on this wiki should always remain canon to SCP - Containment Breach and the SCP universe. You should not post your own SCPs, stories, characters, and especially modifications. This also means that you should not roleplay on discussion pages. If you want to do any of these go start your own fanon wiki.

A democracy
This one should be obvious. Whenever we have to make content-related decisions, we will usually put up a voting or discussion session. However, community votes/discusses will only be taken into consideration. The administrators' collective decision can and will override it if they think differently about the idea.

For example: If the majority of our community wanted us to allow the addition of mod pages to this wiki, we would still not allow them because like mentioned before, this wiki is not a fanon site.

A speculation form
The SCP Foundation is a place shrouded in mystery. Many things are left unexplained and everybody has their different theories and explanations for why things happen the way they do. This ties into the Foundation's motto "There is no canon", which represents that everyone has their own head canon.

Like the Foundation itself, SCP - Containment Breach is also shrouded in mystery. Questions like what was the cause of the breach are things which make fans come up with their own theories. Because of this, articles will contain speculation. However, we have certain rules about how these work.

*We will never take these speculations as facts. No matter how much evidence there is, we will not consider it fact unless the game clearly states "This was caused by this."

*Speculation needs to have proof. You can't say something like "It is speculated that Dr. Maynard released SCP-106." Because there is no proof behind this theory. An example of a theory we would accept is "It is speculated that Dr. Maynard is a Chaos Insurgency spy because a note can be found in his office reading "YOU MADE IT SO EASY. NICE WORK FOUNDATION." and a readable monitor shows that Maynard was talking with an unknown about something being released."

*Speculation can not interfere with canon. You can't say something like "Due to the moss stone in Dr. L's office, it is presumed that he could be SCP-106." because that would break off of the Foundation's canon.

A history book
Just because certain places, locations, or items are found in SCP - Containment Breach does not warrant them to have pages if all their information can simply be found on Wikipedia or any other site. An example would be this:

*The CCTV Monitors are used as security cameras throughout the facility. - This information can be found on its Wikipedia page.

*The Gas Mask is an item which protects you from decontamination gas and can be refined in SCP-914. - This information can not be found on Wikipedia.

Censored
We can not guarantee that you won't come across offensive content on this wiki. An example is a quote from the Server Room Guard where he yells "Oh shit!", which should not be changed to "Oh ****!" By looking at our pages, you agree that we can not be held responsible for any material you see.

This also corresponds to vandalism. If someone vandalizes a page and adds pornography content to it, it probably won't be removed right away. Our users can not monitor the wiki 24/7, so we won't always be able to remove vandalization as soon as it appears.

Wikipedia
Unlike sites like Wikipedia, users do not have to cite their sources of information. Editors are encouraged to do original research for the following reasons:

*Very few sites on the internet contain information about SCP - Containment Breach.

*Our administrators play the game. They will be able to spot false data easily.

Should you decided to cite your sources, please remember to not cite them the way Wikipedia does it.

*Saying that SCP-008 was originally Keter and citing a web archive of the SCP wiki which shows that it was at one point a Keter SCP. - Good citation.

*Saying that SCP-173 moves when not being observed and citing the SCP wiki itself or a review of the game. - Bad citation

An essay site
Articles should not contain opinions. They must be written from neutral point of views and should not express the writer's thoughts on the topic.

*Do not state opinions as facts.

*Do not state facts as opinions.

*Do not use a judgmental language.

*Should the article discuss a dispute, remember to describe it and not take part in it.

Your tutor
This is a wiki, not a strategy guide. Articles are not written in How-to styles and will focus more on What it is. then How to deal with it.

Your mom
Articles will not baby the reader or insult their intelligence. We will not say that "SCP-106 can walk through doors and walls and leaves behind black smudges." Instead, we will say that "SCP-106 can phase through solid matter. Any matter it comes in contact with will become corroded in a black mucus." If there are phrases or words that you do not understand, google them.

The SCP Foundation
This wiki is not affiliated with the SCP Foundation or its community in any way, shape, or form. We can not create SCPs, characters, or facts about existing SCPs.

The creators
Yes, this is the official wiki for the game, and yes, the creator does check this wiki periodically - but that does not mean we have control over what gets added into the game. If you want to suggest changes or features, do it on the Official Forums.
